Second Reading:  A reading from the letter of St Paul to the Philippians . Life to me is Christ.

FATHER HUDSON’S CARE ANNUAL COLLECTION NEXT WEEKEND  

On 26-27 September the second collection will be for Father Hudson’s Care to support their mission of supporting vulnerable people across the Archdiocese of Birmingham. Father Hudson’s reaches out to people of all ages who need help, advice, and support at times of adversity. Please give generously to this worthy cause. THE SEASON OF CREATION 1st September to October 4th, Feast of St Francis. Pope Francis calls us to keep the Season of Creation at this time of year. He asks us to focus on the message of ‘Laudato Si’, his important letter published five years ago, reminding the whole human family to be aware of our responsibility to care for our common home. 

CAFOD FAMILY FAST DAY this year is on Friday October 9th. The Collection will follow on weekend 10/11th October. It will go to CAFOD Coronavirus Appeal. The virus is deeply affecting CAFOD’s work globally and our help is vital. Survive/Rebuild/Heal.

NICE TO SEE YOU; It is good to see attendance at the Masses in both parishes being maintained and increasing slowly. And the response to the two additional public Masses at SH on Wednesday at 7pm and EM on Thursday 10am. We quite understand if people still do not feel confident in returning to Mass just yet.

ORDINATIONS IN OUR DIOCESE – GOOD NEWS !

This month there will be four ordinations to the Priesthood in our diocese.  Alex Taylor and  Clive  Dytor this weekend and Benedict Skipper and Sean Gough next weekend at St Chad’s. The ceremonies will be live-streamed on St Chad’s website. On Friday October 9th also at St Chad’s, our two new auxiliary Bishops Fr Stephen Wright and Fr David Evans will be ordained for service in our diocese. Please pray for them as they will be beginning their ministry of service in our diocese at this challenging time.

ENGLISH MARTYRS SCHOOL has now opened for the new school year and all is going well. Our thanks to the teachers and staff for all the hard work in making the school a safe place for all.

ENGLISH MARTYRS PARISH HALL; The work to renovate and improve the facilities-toilets and kitchen has been completed. It looks great.  It will help to provide better facilities for our users and the parish. We have funded it from funds the parish had invested with the diocese.

Offertory Collections

Thank you for your generous response to the Offertory Collections. Please consider signing a Standing Order. This is getting more common as we move towards a more cashless society and we don’t carry cash so much these days. 

At English Martyrs, you may have taken a Standing Order form when we distributed the Collection boxes before the lock down. Please let us have them back if you wish to proceed.

At Sacred Heart, we can let you have a form, please phone or email.

Holy Communion 

Thank you for following the directions for receiving Holy Communion at the end of Mass. And leaving the Church in silence. 

You are asked to come up to receive Holy Communion with your mask on and stretch out your hand- flat palm to receive the Host. As you move away remove your mask to consume the Host and then put it on again immediately. Please be aware of distancing when coming to Communion.  

Thanks again to all who are helping with the stewarding and cleaning the Church after services. 

Hand Sanitisers. We have now got some automatic dispensers for the sanitising. Just place your hand below the unit and the gel will be delivered.

Other parish news

English Martyrs: it was good to welcome the good number who came to our first Public Mass last Sunday. Numbers have been good at Sacred Heart too.  Please support and encourage one another to attend but respect the wishes of those who are not yet ready or available to attend.

Offertory Collections : We appreciate your generous giving to the Church which has been much affected by the present crisis. Thanks to all who have signed Standing Orders and/or who have Gift Aided. Please consider doing this if you don’t already. We will try and deliver the remaining collection envelope boxes soon. 

Holy Communion and Leaving the Church; The practical arrangements for seating and moving around the Church are working well. Because we receive Holy Communion at the end of Mass please remember to leave the Church in silence and do not speak until well outside the Church. Please remember the distancing rules of 2 metres if you are having a conversation. We are advised not to gather outside but to leave for home as soon as possible.
