BREAKING NEWS: Archbishop Bernard has appointed Fr Gerry to the Cathedral Chapter and  the College of Consultors of the Archdiocese. His installation has been done in private because of the restrictions but there will be a public ceremony later in the year when the three new Canons will be formally installed and welcomed. Fr Gerry was rather surprised by this but is really quite chuffed. It also recognises the important work for justice and peace in the diocese which Fr Gerry has been involved with over many years.

CAFOD says Thanks.

Thank you for your generous donations to CAFOD’s Family Fast Day during Lent. We featured  Marian and her son Svondo in Zimbabwe in Lent 2018. The community vegetable garden that your donations helped provide is growing well and during the pandemic the family has survived  on the vegetables. Your support has also helped to provide soap and handwashing stations  in the garden and in family homes. This is just one of many long-term development projects  that CAFOD has funded with the money from that Fast Day. Thank you for your steadfast  support.

Humanity must let itself be touched and pervaded by the Spirit given to it by the Risen Christ. It is the Spirit that heals the wounds of the heart, pulls down the barriers that separate us from  God and divide us from one another. At the same time restores the joy of the Father’s love  and fraternal unity. It is important that we accept the whole message that comes to us from  the word of God on this Second Sunday of Easter which from now on throughout the Church  will be called ‘Divine Mercy Sunday’. Christ has taught us that ‘we not only receive and  experience the mercy of God, but are also called to practice mercy towards others. ‘Blessed  are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy.’ (Mt 5 :7) From a homily of St John Paul 11.
