Support the Season of Creation

The Season of Creation runs from September 1st until October 4th, the Feast of St Francis.

Pope Francis calls us to keep the Season of Creation at this time of year. He asks us to focus on the message of ‘Laudato Si’, his important letter published five years ago reminding the whole human family to be aware of our responsibility to care for our common home.

Now the lessons of this document need to be implemented in our thinking and acting in our personal lives, our community life and in the life of the global family. It calls us to ecological conversion and to see how our lives are connected with and affect the health and welfare of our world. We are using up the earth’s resources and our actions are affecting the climate and future of the earth. It especially affects the lives of our poorest brothers and sisters.

So let us try to implement in a serious and practical way the measures needed to ensure the future of our common home. Each one of us has a part to play through prayer, reflection and concrete actions. We must support and encourage one another in this.

Father Gerry Murray, Sacred Heart parish priest.

A Prayer for Care of Creation

Creator God, who made our beautiful world,
appointed us as its guardians
and gifted us with everything we need,
forgive us
for the times we cause it harm;
for the times our way of life
affects our neighbours.

Inspire us
to care for the environment;
to help rebuild lives and communities;
to share in the griefs and anxieties,
joys and hopes of all your people,
so that all your creation may flourish.
