Pope Francis

livesimply prayer (v2 & 3)

Creator God,
You gave us responsibility for the earth,
a world of riches and delight.
Create in us a desire to live sustainably,
So that those who follow after us
May enjoy the fruits of your creation.
God of peace and justice,
you give us the capacity to change,
to bring about a world that mirrors your wisdom.
Create in us a desire to act in solidarity,
so that the pillars of injustice crumble
and those now crushed are set free.

winter shelter.jpg (650×300)The clocks have gone back, the nights are drawing in and it’s getting colder. Thoughts turn to the rising number of homeless people facing a difficult winter. In common with other towns and cities, Rugby has seen a sharp rise in those living without a roof over their heads. Hope4 Rugby is the local charity which helps the homeless or badly-housed. Some Sacred Heart parishioners help out at the Winter Shelter which usually operates between 1st December and 31st March. If interested, consult Hope4 Rugby.

The charity is also in need of donations of the following:

  • Sleeping bags, rucksacks, tents and camping mats always needed
  • Deodorants, disposable razors, shaving gel/foam, toiletries
  • Men’s socks, shoes, belts and underwear if clean and in good condition
  • Board games
  • Tins of baked beans, tuna, fish, ham, fruit, custard, rice pudding. Please no pasta, soup or teabags at present.
  • No clothes or coats at present, please.

Donations can be taken to the Hope Centre at 8 Newbold Road during opening hours or phone the Hope Centre on 01788 572456 to arrange collection. Important Note: Surplus items donated to Hope4 will be shared with the food bank, given to charity shops or otherwise disposed of. Hope4 say, please only donate if you are happy for them to do this.

Palm Oil

Palm-Oil-2-6-14-2216px-1.jpg (3000×1040)The ongoing use of Palm Oil in products ranging from bread and biscuits to detergents continues to promote the devastation of rain forests as land is cleared for the planting of palm trees. The European Food Safety Authority has also warned that refined palm oil and products manufactured with it contain very high amounts of fatty acid esters that can cause cancer and damage DNA, liver, kidneys and testes. So, please read product labels prior to purchase; avoid palm oil and where possible look for a Fair Trade option. For a detailed survey of palm oil and product rating visit
