RESPONDING TO POPE FRANCIS’ CHALLENGE
livesimply prayer (v2 part)
Create in us a desire to live sustainably,
So that those who follow after us
May enjoy the fruits of your creation.
Lent is upon us. Time to be positive and to focus on things we can do that will have a beneficial effect on others and on our planet. Thinking about what we buy, where it has come from and how it has been produced can make a difference.

With Fair Trade fortnight on the horizon check out fairly-traded products which contain palm oil from sustainable sources. The exponential growth in the use of palm oil in products ranging from ice cream and biscuits to detergents has seen millions of acres of rainforest in Indonesia, Malaysia and Papua New Guinea cleared for palm plantations. The same clearance of natural vegetation is threatened in Africa. The effect is devastating destroying the habitats of indigenous wildlife. The carbon released by the deforestation is a significant contributor to climate change. (Source: Ethical Consumer)
The Sustainable Palm Oil Transparency Toolkit (SPOTT) is a project from the Zoological Society of London (ZSL) to provide practical information and resources to stakeholders in the palm oil industry, to reduce its negative environmental impacts. Check it out. http://www.sustainablepalmoil.org/
